The Open Door of Emptiness : Ch. 4 Wisdom and Compassion (part ii) – new recording

It’s been a real pleasure to work on this over the last few days… despite the heat…
You’ll find it here … under the audio and video tab on the home page…just scroll right down to the very bottom of the page…

So many experiences have arisen and passed since the previous posting… including those on the retreat in Sussex.
Someone asks ‘How was the retreat?’… someone answers with the statement ‘It was good.’
But can this even touch the sides of ‘how’ it was for them?
… for each experience is truly ungraspable…

For me, the words below – the first verse is by mountaineer and explorer Eric Shipton, the second from the poem Ulysses by Alfred Lord Tennyson – gesture towards how it seemed…

‘The springs of enchantment lie within ourselves: they arise from our sense of wonder, that most precious of gifts, the birthright of every child.
Loose it…
and life becomes flat and colourless
Keep it and …

I am a part of all that I have met;
Yet all experience is an arch wherethro’
Gleams that untravell’d world,
whose margin fades
For ever and for ever
when I move’

Once, on a pilgrimage, James responded to the delight and astonishment in my email with…’How wonderful to have so many rich experiences…and each of them empty!’
At the time, now many years ago, I most appreciated the first part in sharing the wonder…the last, not so much…
But now… see how… the last is first

The recording explains… : )
